TCG was appointed to deliver a multimillion-dollar refurbishment of the six-storey Yue Hwa Building, a retail development in Chinatown.

The project was secured through a highly competitive tender from Yue Hwa Chinese Products, a leading Chinese department store retailer. This complex upgrade involves a multi-phased construction program spanning nine months.

The award-winning conservation building designed by VivATA Pte Ltd, constructed in 1927, originally served as a hotel before its conversion to Yue Hwa's flagship department store in 1994. In recognition of its heritage preservation, it received an Architectural Heritage Award from the Urban Redevelopment Authority in 1997. Civil and structural engineering works were undertaken by WT Partnership.

Breathing new life into a building of this nature is no easy feat—the sensitive refurbishment and reconfiguration of existing structures requires intricate, highly specialized expertise. All images courtesy of Owen Raggett.
